How a Bold Layout Flip Transformed this Agnes Water Kitchen
When this Canadian family settled into their beachside home in Agnes Water, they loved the location — but the kitchen didn’t love them back. It was boxed in, awkward to navigate, and completely shut off from the living area and those beautiful ocean views. Drawers barely opened, storage was minimal, and it simply didn’t reflect how the family lived.
They didn’t need a bigger kitchen. They needed a smarter one.
A LAYOUT CHANGE THAT OPENED UP THE ENTIRE HOME
The biggest transformation came from a single design decision: flipping the kitchen and dining zones.
By relocating the kitchen to what was previously the dining area, we were able to:
Open sightlines straight through to the living room
Introduce a large sliding door out to the deck
Create room for functional upper cabinetry
Add a generous island ideal for prepping, serving and family moments
This shift didn’t require extra floor space — just a willingness to rethink the home’s potential.
A BLEND OF CANADIAN ROOTS & COASTAL QUEENSLAND EASE
The design direction came from their heritage and their lifestyle. Clean lines, natural finishes and a warm yet calming palette bring both worlds together seamlessly.
Key finishes include:
Custom Built Furnishers joinery
WK Stone’s Monte Bianco benchtops
Dulux Raku and Silver Tea Set
Momo Handles
Designer Tapware Co. tapware
A double farmhouse sink
Every choice was made for everyday practicality, long-term durability and visual ease.
TURNING THE OLD KITCHEN INTO AN OCEAN-VIEW NOOK
The original kitchen footprint became a built-in bench seat overlooking the water. It's now the most-loved spot in the home — ideal for morning coffees, reading, chatting with guests and taking in the view. Practical storage sits neatly underneath, making it beautiful and useful.
A KITCHEN THAT FINALLY WORKS FOR THE WAY THEY LIVE
With clearer flow, stronger connection to the outdoors and materials that suit both their lifestyle and the coastal environment, this kitchen finally feels settled — like it always belonged.
This project is a powerful example of how thoughtful design, good planning and collaborative builder relationships can completely change the way a home lives, without extending or adding more space.
